WUDANG ZHAOBAO HULEI TAIJIQUAN - The thunder boxing

 

ORIGINS

Song QingheIt was Li Jing Yan who first started Taiji Quan Hulei Zhaobao Style. Li Jing Yan studied Zhaobao Taiji Quan Style with Chen Qingping, who belonged go the 7th generation of Zhaobao transmitters. Li Jing Yan had been working as bodyguard for all his life and martial techniques were his daily working tools. When arriving to old age he had a great-accumulated experience in fight and this lead him to condense and refine his technique to a high degree.

Song QingheOn the basis of the boxing he mastered, that is Zhaobao, he developed a new form witch condensed at the same time tui-shou –pushing hands, san-da –real fight and tao-lu –the form or routine style, he created that way an special art that came to be named Hulei –“sudden thunder

Later on in a little village called Wang Ga Da in the province of Henan, County of Xen Xian there was a rich man disciple of Li Jing Yan, whose name was Yang Hu, who inherited this style and contributed to his development conferring the regularization. It is also him who popularized Hulei throughout all the villages of the region. So Hulei started from then to expand little by little in Henan.

CHARACTERISTICS

Song Qinghe's daughterHulei Master Zhang YundeThis boxing is created on the basis of Zhaobao and is a fusion of quan – the Form or “taolu”, tui-shou –pushing hands and san-da –free fight, all in one. So with the practice of this boxing it is not afterwards necessary to practice separately tui-shou and sanda.

  • The projections –“fa” of this boxing are extremely quick and unexpected, there are said to be like thunder. They have also the quality of being very fragile.
  • The body movements have sudden changes of height without loosing harmony.
  • When one riches high levels of practice there is one part of hardness for a thousand softness. Song Qinghe's daughter
  • Another important characteristic of Hulei is what is known as “San Zhan Tengnuo” –avoiding-attacking-rebounding, witch consists in doing within the same movement the technique of avoiding, taking at the same time the opportunity to attack, while one makes a quick transferring movement arising from elasticity.
  • When feet touch ground also they produce a noticeable sound and when launching someone – fa li, there is also an audible sound produced. That is why people finally called Hulei -The Thunder Boxing.
